Portugal is known for its long and beautiful coastline and many parts of the culture and tradition of Portugal are linked to the sea. A great way to experience the wildlife of the ocean while travelling in Portugal is to visit Zoomarine in the Algarve.
Zoomarine is located in Guia in the Algarve near to the popular holiday destination of Albufeira and is easy to find by travelling along the EN125 from Albufeira in the direction of Portimão, although most people who visit for the day travel to Zoomarine by an organised bus with these buses stopping all along the Algarve to take visitors to Zoomarine.
Zoomarine is best described as a miniature version of Sea World and offers visitors the chance to view various marine life, take part in shows and demonstrations, enjoy swimming in the pools or even swim with the dolphins in special session.
If you travel to Portugal and only have the time or the funds for one family day out then you really should put Zoomarine at the top of the list as this is a place that every member of the family can enjoy from small toddlers to the elderly.
During the summer months Zoomarine is very busy and you will find that you have to queue for everything from entry to shows to food in the restaurants and rides at the small fairground the best time to go has to be in the spring and autumn and if you are in Portugal at this time of year then make a beeline to this fantastic attraction.
The highlight for most visitors has to be the dolphins and everyday there are several shows from the dolphins involving tricks with their trainers and demonstrations of their skills.
The bond between the trainers and the dolphins is incredible to see and is also very strong when you watch other shows including the very amusing sea lion show that is sure to delight small children with its slapstick comedy.
There is of course an educational element to Zoomarine and the centre is actually a base for scientists who rehabilitate marine life in the Algarve and use the funds raised from the park to pay for research and development of marine environmental projects.
If you want to be able to swim with the dolphins then you need to book this before you go and make sure you have your slot as only very small groups go at anyone time. This is not a cheap experience but it is amazing and truly unforgettable.
When you travel to Portugal make sure you stop for a family day filled with fun at Zoomarine in the Algarve.
