Olhão has become the latest city in the Algarve to announce a packed programme of events for New Year’s Eve and now joins Albufeira, Portimão and Monte Gordo as one of the largest celebratory events taking place in the region.
A private company has arranged for Olhão to have four days of celebrations to take place to mark the end of 2012 and the beginning of 2013 and have proclaimed that they hope this to be the “biggest New Year” ever celebrated in the Algarve.
An entertainment programme including several DJs and lots of music will make up the celebrations for New Year in Olhão which promises to offer something “different” for revelers.
The organisers of the event said: “This year we will host the largest New Year’s Eve party in the Algarve.
“We have put on a four day event which we hope will bring more investment to Olhão as this should attract people to the city earlier than usual and give them time to enjoy not only the entertainment but also give them the chance to experience the shops, restaurants and bars in the city.”
Any worries that the event could harm local businesses that are also organising events were dispelled by the organisers who believe that “more people will come to Olhão and we will see a lot more movement which will be beneficial to all traders.”
According to the organisers of the event already the announcement of the New Year programme has helped businesses in the city with many of the resturants that would normally close on December 31 now being open and already having many reservations for the night.
The event represents a private investment of between 75,000 and 80,000 euros, a risk during these economically difficult times but organisers are confident that it will prove to be hugely successful.
The mayor of Olhão, Francisco Leal, has thanked the organisers for bringing such a large event to Olhão at a time when the municipality itself is unable to afford to put on anything special due to financial constraints.
The party is due to start on December 28 with the Smash project and followed on December 29 with Eddie Ferrer.
On December 30 DJ Deelight will be taking control of the party with New Year’s Eve seeing Pedro Tabuada hosting the evening and being joined by Daniela P, Filipa Castro, Maya and Super Mário.
The cost of attending the event depends on how many days visitors want to take part in. Daily entry costs between €5 and €15 with a four day bracelet costing €35 and a VIP ticket costing €55.
Celebrations will also be taking place in Albufeira where there will be four days of street entertainment and fireworks from the fishermans beach and Oura. In Portimão there will also be live entertainment and fireworks along the riverside and into Praia da Rocha while in Monte Gordo there will also be entertainment.
