A Trip Over the Border

"Ruidera Lagoons"
Even though we are fortunate enough to live in a beautiful country, where many people choose to come on holiday, it is nice to get away and experience other places for our holidays when we get the chance. The Algarve is an idyllic coastal region in many ways, and although I love nothing more than to relax on the beach with a good book, it’s nice to visit places that have something different to offer. Last summer, we decided that we were going to drive across the border into Spain, to the Ruidera lagoons in the centre of the country. Having never been to this region of Spain before, I was unsure of what exactly to expect, and when we finally got there after a 6 and a half hour car journey, we were taken aback with the beauty of the area. To be honest I had started to doubt whether we had made the right choice during the drive there, as it seemed as if we had travelled from the beautiful coastal region, through some luscious rural lands and mountainous areas, into a completely dry and arid landscape. Thankfully, upon arrival to the lagoons we were greeted with a completely different scene, which was much like an oasis in the desert.

Swimming With The dolphins At Zoo Marine, Algarve

It was my 35th birthday a month ago and my wife decided it was going to be a good idea to buy a ticket for me to swim with the dolphins. I was thrilled with the idea but also abit sceptical about it as well.

When we got down to Zoo marine we had to go in the entrance for the Dolphin emotions experience where the staff member went through safety regulations and what you are aloud to wear and what you are not.

Karting Almancil: Celebrating My Son’s 10th Birthday In Style

We recently celebrated my son’s 10th birthday and as he is getting a little older we decided to treat him to one hour’s go karting at Karting Almancil.

We have never been go karting before so we didn’t know what to expect or how much fun he would have.

To his dismay we put him on the junior karting track and he was rather depressed as he wanted to be among the adults. Our reasoning was that he had never even been on the dodgems on his own before and we wanted him to gather up some experience first.

Another Day At The Beach In Alvor

We have always loved the beach and when we first moved to the Algarve we just couldn’t get over the fact that the beaches on our door step are absolutely out of this world, even though I am a workaholic I always found time to get on the beach and even though we have been here a few years now that has not changed, but I was talking to the one of the locals who told me that if I had not spent a day at the beach in Alvor I was really missing out.

Alvor: A Beautiful Family Day Out By The Sea

Me and my husband were chatting about going out for some lunch. And we decided on Alvor because my husband has not being there but I have many years ago with my parents. Also it is close and with petrol prices it was a bonus.

It is roughly 12kms from where we live and very easy to find. We followed the signs for the beaches (praias) and parked up along the marina front with plenty of parking and you are even aloud to park on the pavements which makes a refreshing change.

Zoo Marine – A Fun Day Out For All The Family

Last month we took our son to zoo marine for a wonderful day out. We decided to go in the off season just to see if it was still value for money and to be honest we wanted to see the sea lions and dolphin shows.

Last time we went was last year at the height of summer for my son’s birthday and it was packed which you do expect at that time of year but we waited around for the shows most of the day.

A Family day out to Spain

Two weekends ago I had a lovely day out with my mum and dad, my husband and our son. My mum and dad are one of many that travel around europe in their RV and it was our last chance to spend time with them before they headed to Spain and France. The next time we will be together will no doubt be at the end of the summer when it is not too hot for them in the Algarve.

So we drove from Silves to visit them at Vila Real de Santo Antonio which is right at the border with Spain. They were wild camping directly at the river and it was very beautiful.

Carvoeiro Beach: Waiting for a Local Disaster

One of the most popular stretches for tourists in the the whole of Europe, is the glorious Algarve coastline in southern Portugal.  With wall to wall sunshine almost guaranteed throughout the summer months, this beautiful part of the world is a haven for beach lovers.  Visitors flock from all around and Praia (Portuguese for beach) Ilha De Tavira, sitting just east of Faro; Praia Ilha De Faro with its great water sports and restaurants; and  Praia de Garrao, a really trendy spot, are just some of the many touristy locations.
