When we moved to the Algarve in the summer of 2008 we found that we were stuck when it came to up to date information and therefore decided to put this blog together so that we could help others.
We are your typical family of three – husband and wife (Dominic and Samantha) and our son Kyle who was seven when we moved to the Algarve. Though he has grown a bit since then. We gave up rainy Manchester in England to start a new life in the Algarve.
We actually originally chose to live in Spain but found that as a whole people were unfriendly and it was too British. We had come here to experience a new culture and a new life and in Spain we felt like we were stuck in the middle of a holiday resort. Plus Spain seems to have more McDonalds than England which certainly isn’t a good thing!!!
Expat communities in the Algarve are all focused towards the over 55′s that are retiring abroad and give little or no thought to British families that want to educate their children in a foreign country or want to find work locally. The worst information we were offered surrounded what was required to have my son attend school which is a real shame.
I thought by offering a blog I can offer real information for free, for those that are in similar situations to myself without being given third rate advice that will only serve as a hinderence later on in your moving abroad transformation.
So sit back and relax and read more about how the Algarve has served us as our new home.
Thanks for reading

Samantha
