Expat life: becoming the local celebrities

Today we had a lot of fun - we were in a movie! Living close to Cannes, the glamour of the film world is right on our doorstep, however the film we were in today was being made by a small group of locals.
The best bit about the experience was realising we are now rather well accepted amongst the local bohemia crowd of Old Town Nice. Oly had to pretend (oops "act") he was in a brawl in a bar, and I was "the British woman". That was it - but all good fun, and we appreciated our life style so much; that we could just stroll round the corner in the beautiful sun and take part with others in a creative activity.
Yesterday we made friends with an American busker who has lived here for the last 15 years. It was great to see him cavorting around in the sun with his young band of French teens singing the blues to cafe society.
A town is what you make it - we are artists and are drawn towards like-minded people, but if we were bankers we would be joining the jet setters of Monaco - and if we were "proper" film stars we would have been parading along the red carpet of Cannes. Living as an expat in the South of France presents so many opportunities to have dreams and even live some of them out.
Oh dear now the town is getting a little wild - the Irish revellers are making themselves heard on St Patrick's night. There's never a dull moment here - and all on our doorstep - certainly beats taking the London tube to find some "action!"
